This event brought together government and business leaders to discuss the way forward for G7 climate leadership in 2023. It was part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the German Federal Foreign Office and in collaboration with adelphi, Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft, and We Mean Business Coalition.

The Russian war against Ukraine has led to a severe geopolitical and energy crisis jeopardizing climate objectives, industry transformation and social cohesion in the G7 and across the globe. While the European Union has responded with REPowerEU, the United States with the IRA, the German G7 Presidency has been trying to keep up G7 leadership with the concept of a Climate Club, a Green H2 Action Plan and key impulses for the development of green lead markets, for example with the IEA report “Achieving Net Zero Heavy Industry Sectors in G7 Members”.

The event tried to answer key questions such as:  Where do we stand at the end of the German G7 Presidency? How can transatlantic climate collaboration continue to raise G7 ambition? What do major companies need from governments now to jointly emerge from the crisis? Which initiatives are recommended to continue under the upcoming Japanese G7 Presidency to facilitate this?
